Embedding Dramas in English Grammar Lessons for English-majored Students: Practice and Suggestions
Abstract
Grammar is an essential component of English language learning, and it is important to find effective ways to teach it. Traditional grammar instruction can be tedious and uninspiring, which is why teachers are seeking new and creative methods to engage their students. Recent studies have shown that drama-based teaching is an innovative approach that has been shown to enhance students' motivation, engagement, grammar knowledge and skills (Pawan Kumar and Rani, 2019). However, effective implementation of drama-based teaching requires careful planning, preparation, and execution. This study aims to explore the pedagogical strategies for embedding dramas in English grammar lessons for English majored students. The study, first, reviews current theories and research findings on the use of dramas in teaching and learning English grammar, what benefits it offers, and what challenges teachers potentially meet. Then, it focuses on a practical guideline for using dramas in English grammar lessons. Overall, this study can provide valuable insights for English language teachers, teacher educators, and curriculum developers in designing effective pedagogical strategies for embedding dramas in English grammar lessons.
